Week 13

I'm just going to get straight into it.

Here are some shillouetts I've been working on. First having it simple and small then enlarging it and putting more detail into it.

I've also been looking at "The prince of Egypt movie" to get a feel of the egyptian way of life.
Also been looking at books by Andrew Loomis on http://www.fineart.sk/index.php?cat=1

Week 10

BOYA I absolutallly Love that video we watched this week. The one about painting concept art in photoshop. When I got home I put the new found knowledge straight to work, and though it has nothing to do with pre-production It's the best 1hour and 30 minute painting I've done.

I learnt heaps today through that video.

* Starting with grey base colour, to make it easier to build up shadow and highlights
* processes in keyboard shortcuts for easier flow of painting
* lighting of a scene (reflected light)
* Working on the painting as a whole
* and the tonal thing where you put the painting to grey scale to see if it reads well without colour

I was going to put some concept art up but I think it can wait another week since we only just decided on the theme of the fairy tale, and I didn't get much drawings done.

Thanks Heaps for that Video Mark!!!

week 9

well todays lecture was good again. Going over the feelings that dominant colour in film screen can have. In the past I haven't really considered this much, but I will now.
Well with the assignment project things are just at basic grounds. Just decided on a story, so haven't got many self made pictures at the moment.

Ha ha I just noticed that with my week 7 storyboard pictures, 2 of them are pretty much the same, just different arm position :P

ah welll, thats a boring weeks post from me. hope you enjoyed it :D

Week 7

Well week seven was a while ago lets see what I can remember.

The colour theory stuff was good to know, very informative to. With the warmth and coolness of colours, how colours react when with other colours and colours used in distance.

Ok that's about all so I'll post some finished stordboard pictures.

Weeks 5+6

Week 5
Well seems like basic stuff alover again. I thought the colour coding system in the intro to layout was already covered last week. Uh we didn't do scene planing in flash did we? I think I would have found that beneficial. Tutorial was pretty straight forward, just worked on assesment

Week 6
I'm getting a tad bit annoyed that we stand around for almost two hours and barley see a thing thats going on the lightbox. Please get the cintiq working or something, so we can see whats going on better. Anyways I didn't think the layout techniques were that new. Although I didn't get to see a whole lot so I may be wrong. I did do my thumbnails for assesment but they are very quick, most being a circle with cross and two lines. So I won't post them, I'll wait till i get into research more.

Week 3+4

Week 3

Hmm seems so long ago. I'm stretching my mind a bit to remember. Ah yes Storyboarding the part at the end of the tutorial was good and the demonstration of the working of the thumbnails. I'm a bit slow on picking up every bit of information, so im glad there are those files from the lectures for later references and really picking up on it.

I didn't get much storyboarding for the practice of week 3 but ill post it anyways (really basic). Now I just want to focus on the animatic for assesment.

Week 4

I really wish we could have seen the movie animatics on the big screen this week, cause it was very hard to see what was going on. I'm not sure how benificial it was to go over the script and make suggestions for storyboarding, I thought the assignment was pretty straight forward. We just need to get the practise in to get the process going.

I'll keep that tip on doing clean up. (Look where the line is going, warm up drawing). I think I just need to get stuck into the animatic now.

7th March

Well we did some breakdown sheets as we all know. It all seems logical and easy to me, don't know why we needed a lesson on it. The realistic painting tutorial DVD was rather tedious to watch, did'nt really get much out of it (though it was a good painting).

Not to clear on the homework, are we meant to print out the whole of each script and colour it all in?? Does anyone have a copy of that powerpoint with the colour info on it??

Well no Thumbnails for this post :(

28th Febuary

Well here's the first for the year.
Learning about thumb nailing seemed like revision, nothing new. The way that guy created character designs through mathematical formulas was pretty cool, didn’t exactly understand it but it still seemed cool.

The dinosaur drawings were well done, and I though it was good for a bit of a feel to researching what were drawing, but I wish we had more time and examples of researching. Goggles good but it’s hard to find specific things to research, like with researching for German house interior designs from a certain time period (for Grim brothers fairytale research homework). Probably could have benefited used more tips on research techniques.

Here are some of the drawings I drew from studying German buildings. They are a bit of a mix of different photos. Not sure if all photos were from the right time period though.
